"A serum is the most concentrated step in your routine: the specialist you bring in for one goal. With hundreds of Korean serums promising everything, the real question is which one your skin needs right now. I've matched two serums to each of five concerns, after reading every ingredient list and using each one for at least four weeks. Find your concern, pick your serum."
Dictionary Series: Cleansing · Toner · Moisturizer · Eye Care · Mask
First: essence, serum or ampoule?
Rough texture? A spicule booster or a ferment serum. Redness? Pure centella or azelaic acid. Fine lines? PDRN-peptide or retinoid serum. Dull? Snail essence or a glow mist. Dark spots? A multi-active brightening serum. Apply thinnest to thickest, and use only one strong active per evening.
Essence
The lightest, most watery step. Hydrates and preps so the next layers absorb better.
Serum
The targeted specialist: a concentrated dose of actives for one specific concern.
Ampoule
Usually the most concentrated: an intensive treatment, often used for a set period.
The full explanation is in toner vs essence vs serum vs ampoule. New to retinoids? Start with retinol for beginners.

Shop The Glow SerumYour Korean Serum Questions, Answered
Order, combinations and how long to wait.
In what order do I apply Korean serums?
Thinnest to thickest: after toner, apply the most watery serum first, wait about 30 seconds, then the richer one, then moisturizer. Sunscreen comes last in the morning.
Can I use more than one serum?
Yes, but use only one strong active per evening. Avoid combining retinoids with acids, azelaic acid or spicule boosters on the same night. Introduce one new active at a time.
Which serum is best for dark spots?
Look for niacinamide, vitamin C, alpha-arbutin, tranexamic acid or glutathione. The Numbuzin No.5+ serum combines several for stubborn spots; the Axis-Y serum is gentler for everyday use. Daily SPF is essential for either to work.
How long until I see results?
Hydration and glow are immediate. Texture and redness usually improve in two to four weeks. Dark spots, fine lines and firmness take around eight to twelve weeks of consistent use.
