The K-Beauty Eye Care Dictionary: The Right Korean Eye Cream, Serum or Patch for Every Concern

"Is eye cream a scam? Half the internet says yes, just use your face cream. The other half owns six. The truth sits in between: the skin around your eyes is much thinner than on the rest of your face, has very few oil glands and moves all day, so it shows tiredness and lines first, and it reacts faster to strong actives. That's why eye products exist, and why the right one matters more than the price. I've matched two Korean eye products to each of five concerns, after using every one of them for at least four weeks."

Morning puffiness? Cooling patches or a refreshing serum. Whatever you choose: a rice-grain amount, ring finger, gentle taps along the orbital bone.

Your Korean Eye Care Questions, Answered

Including the one everyone argues about.

Do I really need an eye cream, or can I use my face cream?

If your face cream doesn't sting your eyes, you can use it. Eye products are worth it when you want a targeted active, such as retinal or bakuchiol, in a formula made for thinner, more reactive skin, or a lighter texture that's less likely to cause milia.

When should I start using an eye cream?

Whenever you notice dryness, fine lines or dark circles, often in your mid-twenties. Start with a gentle hydrating formula and save retinoids for when lines become a real concern.

Can I use retinol around my eyes?

Yes, with formulas made for the eye area, at night, starting two or three times a week. If it stings, switch to bakuchiol. Not during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

What actually works on dark circles?

It depends on the cause: brownish circles respond to brightening ingredients, bluish ones to cooling and better sleep, shadowy ones to plumping hydration. Daily SPF keeps them from deepening.

Do eye patches really work?

For short-term results, yes: cooling and hydration reduce puffiness and help concealer sit smoothly. For long-term change, they're the boost; your serum and cream are the treatment.
