Goodal Green Tangerine Vita C: The Gentle Vitamin C Routine for Dark Spots and Dark Circles
"Most vitamin C serums make you choose: strong enough to fade a dark spot, or gentle enough to use every day. Goodal's Green Tangerine Vita C serum became one of Korea's most-loved vitamin C products by refusing that choice, and the renewed Alpha formula is the best version of it yet. I have the kind of skin that turns every blemish into a brown mark, and every strong vitamin C into a red one. So I gave the Goodal line eight weeks — serum, cream, eye cream and patches — with a photo in the same daylight every Sunday. Here is what faded, what didn't, and which of the four you need."
The short answer: which Goodal product should you start with?
Dark spots or post-acne marks on the face? The Vita C Dark Spot Care Serum Alpha, morning and evening, with sunscreen every day. Add the Cream Alpha if you want your moisturizer working on the same goal instead of just sealing. Dark circles? The fragrance-free Vita C Eye Cream for the long game, the Eye Patches when you need brighter, de-puffed eyes in ten minutes. If you only buy one, buy the serum.
Goodal (구달, "Good" + "All") is the skincare brand of CLIO Cosmetics, launched in Seoul in 2011 around Korean-grown botanicals and mild, effective formulas. Its Green Tangerine Vita C serum, first released in 2018, became a global bestseller and has been reformulated several times since — each generation carrying a Greek letter, which is what "Alpha" in the current names means. Three things make the line work:
70% Jeju green tangerine
Unripe tangerines harvested on Jeju Island contain up to ten times the vitamin C of ripe ones. In the serum the extract is 70% of the whole formula, so the base itself brightens — not just a few percent of actives dropped into water.
Four forms of vitamin C
Instead of one high dose of pure ascorbic acid — the kind that stings, oxidises and turns orange — Goodal uses a complex of stable derivatives that work on pigment at different stages. Slower-burning, far kinder, and it keeps working month after month.
Niacinamide + arbutin
Vitamin C brightens existing pigment; niacinamide slows the transfer of new pigment to the surface; arbutin quietens the enzyme that makes it in the first place. Three doors closed instead of one — the reason the results hold.
How I tested. Eight weeks, combination skin with post-blemish marks along the jaw and a stubborn sun spot on the left cheekbone from a summer of mountain hiking. Serum and cream morning and evening, SPF 50 every morning without exception, no acids or retinol for the duration so the result could only come from Goodal. Eye cream twice a day; patches three mornings a week. A photo in the same window light every Sunday. I have kept the numbers honest below — including what an eight-week vitamin C routine cannot do.

"The breakouts are gone, but the brown marks they left won't budge — and every vitamin C I've tried has stung."
Goodal Vita C Serum Alpha vs Cream Alpha: Which Fades Dark Spots?
The serum is the treatment; the cream is the moisturizer that refuses to stop working. Used together they are the brand's intended routine, and on my jawline that pairing was the difference between "a bit lighter" at week four and "I've stopped concealing it" at week eight.
Goodal Green Tangerine Vita C Dark Spot Care Serum Alpha (40ml)
Four stable vitamin C derivatives (ascorbyl glucoside, 3-O-ethyl ascorbic acid, sodium ascorbyl phosphate and ascorbic acid) work on pigment at different stages while 4% niacinamide slows melanin transfer and refines the look of pores. Glutathione, CoQ10 and thioctic acid add antioxidant defence against the daily damage that creates new spots, and a centella triterpene complex of madecassoside and asiaticoside keeps the formula calm enough for reactive skin. The gel-matrix texture is the big change from the older versions: it glides, sinks in within about ten seconds and leaves nothing behind for makeup to slide on. Not labelled fragrance-free — there's a light, natural citrus freshness that fades on contact. Vegan, alcohol-free, pregnancy-friendly. In eight weeks the two newest post-blemish marks on my jaw were gone; the older ones were roughly half as dark; the cheekbone sun spot was lighter but still there. That is a realistic result for a gentle vitamin C, and exactly why it works as a daily habit rather than a quarterly correction.
Best for: combination, oily and normal skin; dark spots, post-acne marks and uneven tone; dullness; sensitive skin that has reacted to pure L-ascorbic acid; anyone new to vitamin C.Less suited to: anyone who wants a 15–20% pure ascorbic acid serum for very dark, established pigmentation — this is the gentler, longer road.
Editor’s tip: Two to three drops pressed over the face, then one extra drop dabbed straight onto each mark before your moisturizer. Store it away from the bathroom window and the radiator so the vitamin C stays stable, and never skip the morning sunscreen — one unprotected day darkens a mark faster than a week of serum lightens it.

Most moisturizers only lock in what came before; this one adds a second shift. 5% niacinamide slows pigment transfer and strengthens the barrier, alpha-arbutin targets the enzyme that produces dark spots, and three vitamin C derivatives brighten without stinging, all on a green tangerine base with glutathione and CoQ10 for antioxidant defence. Macadamia seed oil keeps skin comfortable, but the texture spreads like a gel-lotion and is absorbed in under a minute — my combination skin did not shine by lunchtime and my dry-cheeked colleague did not feel tight by evening. Clinically shown by the brand to improve the look of dullness. Vegan, alcohol-free, pregnancy-friendly. 50ml.
Best for: normal, combination and dry skin; dark spots and uneven tone; daily brightening without weight; sealing in the Serum Alpha; anyone who wants one moisturizer for morning and night.Less suited to: very dry skin in a cold Central European winter as the only cream (layer a richer cream on top at night), or very oily skin that prefers a gel with no oils at all.
Editor’s tip: A pea-to-almond-sized amount, patted rather than rubbed, straight over the serum while it's still slightly tacky. In the morning, wait a minute and go straight to sunscreen — it layers cleanly under every SPF I tried.

Goodal Vita C Eye Cream vs Eye Patch: Which One for Dark Circles?
Dark circles come in two kinds, and the Goodal pair covers both. If yours are brown and stay put when you press the skin, they are pigment — the eye cream's job, over weeks. If they are blue-grey, puffy and worse in the morning, they are circulation and fluid — the patch's job, in minutes. Most of us have some of each.
Goodal Green Tangerine Vita C Dark Spot Care Eye Cream (30ml)
The skin under the eye is the thinnest on the face, which is why so many brightening actives are off-limits there. This cream uses the gentle ones: green tangerine extract with stable vitamin C derivatives (3-O-ethyl ascorbic acid and ascorbic acid polypeptide), niacinamide and arbutin to slow melanin, glucosyl hesperidin (a form of vitamin P) to support the tiny vessels under the eye, and adenosine for elasticity. It is formulated without fragrance, alcohol or parabens and is the one product in the line I would hand to someone with genuinely reactive eyes. The texture is silky and cushiony, melts in with a few taps, and neither pilled under concealer nor migrated into my eyes on a 30-degree day. By week four the brown tone under my eyes was visibly lighter in the Sunday photo; by week eight I was using half the concealer. Vegan, pregnancy-friendly. 30ml.
Best for: dark circles caused by pigmentation; fine lines and loss of firmness around the eyes; sensitive, easily irritated eye areas; morning and evening use under makeup.Less suited to: puffiness-only mornings (reach for the patches) or hollow, structural shadows, which no cream can fill.
Editor’s tip: A pea-sized amount on the ring finger, dotted along the orbital bone and tapped from the inner to the outer corner — never rubbed. Extend it to smile lines and the forehead if you like. For faster results, put the Eye Patches on underneath two or three mornings a week.
Shop The Vita C Eye CreamGoodal Green Tangerine Vita C Dark Spot Care Eye Patch (60 patches)
Each embossed hydrogel patch carries a serum-gel of green tangerine, two stable vitamin C derivatives, niacinamide and arbutin — the same brightening team as the serum — with caffeine to help constrict the tiny vessels behind puffiness and adenosine for elasticity. The patch stays cold on the skin and adheres seamlessly, pushing the essence in while you make coffee. Five minutes is a quick refresh; twenty is a treatment. On the mornings I used them the puffiness after a late night was gone by the time I'd dressed, and my concealer went on smoother for the rest of the day. They do not replace the eye cream for pigment, but they are the fastest visible result in the whole Goodal line. Vegan, alcohol-free, pregnancy-friendly.
Best for: puffy, tired morning eyes; dullness and dehydration under the eyes; a quick brightening step before makeup or an event; anyone who won't commit to a twice-daily eye cream.Less suited to: deep, long-standing pigmented circles as the only step — use them under the Eye Cream, not instead of it.
Editor’s tip: Lift a patch with the included spoon, embossed side to the skin, and keep the jar in the fridge with the lid tight — the extra cold doubles the de-puffing and stops the patches drying out. Pat the leftover essence in; don't rinse.

The eight-week Goodal brightening routine, and when to expect results
Vitamin C is a habit, not an event. This is the schedule I followed, with what I saw at each stage — so you know whether it's working, and when to be patient.
Every morning
Cleanse, toner, 2–3 drops of Serum Alpha, Eye Cream, Cream Alpha, then SPF 50. Two or three mornings a week, the Eye Patches go on for ten minutes before the serum.
Every evening
Double cleanse, toner, Serum Alpha with an extra drop on each mark, Eye Cream, Cream Alpha. If you use retinol or acids, alternate nights with them and keep the vitamin C for the mornings.
Weeks 1–4
Skin looks fresher and more even within the first week — that's hydration and antioxidant glow, not the spots yet. By week four the newest, reddish marks are clearly lighter and the under-eyes are brighter.
Weeks 5–8
The older brown marks start to give. Expect new post-blemish marks to fade in four to eight weeks, older ones to halve, and sun spots to lighten slowly. Keep going: this is where consistency pays.
One warning for anyone who spends weekends in the mountains: UV is stronger at altitude and snow reflects up to 80% of it back at your face, so a brightening routine without a daily SPF fails fastest in the mountains. Our guide to which Korean sunscreen suits your skin type will find you one you'll actually wear, and why the winter sun is a silent thief of youth explains what happens on the piste.
Your Goodal Vita C Questions, Answered
Sensitive skin, morning or night, mixing with niacinamide and retinol, and how long it really takes.
Is the Goodal Green Tangerine Vita C serum good for sensitive skin?
It is one of the vitamin C serums we recommend most often for sensitive skin. Instead of a high percentage of pure L-ascorbic acid, the Serum Alpha uses four stable derivatives on a green tangerine base, plus a centella triterpene complex (madecassoside and asiaticoside) that calms as it brightens; the brand reports it has passed skin irritation and sensitive-skin suitability testing. It is alcohol-free but not fragrance-free, so if scent is your trigger, patch-test on the jaw first. The Eye Cream is fully fragrance-free.
Should I use the Goodal Vita C serum in the morning or at night?
Both, if your skin tolerates it — the derivatives are gentle enough for twice-daily use. If you use only once, choose the morning: vitamin C's antioxidant action helps neutralise the free radicals that sunlight and pollution generate during the day, then sunscreen protects the brightening you've done. In the evening, pair it with the Cream Alpha and skip strong acids or retinol on the same night.
Can I use Goodal Vita C with niacinamide, retinol or exfoliating acids?
Niacinamide, yes — it's already in every product in the line, and the old idea that the two cancel each other out has been disproven. Retinol and AHA/BHA acids are fine in the same routine but not the same moment: vitamin C in the morning, retinol or acids at night, or alternate evenings. Our K-Beauty Serum Dictionary shows which actives layer and which need their own night.
How long does it take Goodal Vita C to fade dark spots?
Give it eight weeks. Fresh, reddish post-blemish marks usually fade in four to eight weeks of twice-daily use; older brown marks take longer and typically halve in that time; sun spots lighten slowly and may need a stronger treatment. For the eye area, 85.7% of participants in the brand's study saw reduced dark circles after four weeks. Two things change the timeline more than anything else: applying an extra drop directly to each mark, and wearing sunscreen every single day.
Is Goodal Vita C safe to use during pregnancy?
All four products in this guide carry our Pregnancy-Friendly highlight: they use vitamin C derivatives, niacinamide and arbutin, and contain no retinoids, no alcohol and no hydroquinone. The Eye Cream is fragrance-free as well. Vitamin C is one of the actives most commonly considered suitable in pregnancy, and it is a good fit for the hormonal pigmentation many people notice at that time — but always confirm your own routine with your doctor. You can filter everything we stock in the Pregnancy-Friendly collection.
Does the Goodal serum sting or feel sticky, and what does Alpha mean?
No sting on my skin at any point in eight weeks, and no stickiness — the renewed gel-matrix texture is the biggest improvement over the earlier versions, which some users found tacky under sunscreen. "Alpha" is simply the name of the current generation of the formula: Goodal has reformulated its Green Tangerine Vita C serum several times since 2018, and each generation is marked with a Greek letter. The Alpha serum and cream are the newest.
